A CHAIR OF MY OWN
A CHAIR OF mY OWN
A Chair of My Own combines portraiture and chairs. A chair is a piece of artwork and so is a person. Each subject interacts with their own chair. Like the chairs that we prefer, we’re all different, but have much that is the same.
These images are minimalist: monochrome with a plain white background, abstracting the subject from its environment. They are a nod to the portrait photographer Richard Avedon, whom I greatly admire. Always, there is a subjective element to photography. Avedon’s flamboyance reflects in his work; I am less so, which reflects in mine.
